Is an independent Illustrator and Designer

Francisca Ramalho is a Portuguese Illustrator and Designer who uses Illustration to reflect about the world and Design as a way to organize it.

Francisca seeks pure forms dress-up in innocent colours and mix-up in vibrant compositions. With a touch of humor. Treating each project like a dynamic dance piece where elements and characters combine to tell a story. The whole process is a manner of reflecting on herself and others.

Francisca’s portfolio is a diverse collage that spans everything from illustrations for a children’s book for Lisbon’s Roman Theatre Museum, with a view to help attract the younger public to Lisbon's cultural places, to large-scale panels that add little moments of fantasy and play to the walls of the Pediatric Ward of Hospital São João in Porto, a place meant to heal pain and suffering. In each project, she joins forces with people from different disciplines, such as research, architecture, engineering, production and implementation, who always inspire her further.

Always eager to meet new collaborators, clients and friends, Francisca is constantly unpicking symbols and threading stories around the people and proposals she encounters. Each project starts with a collection of loose ideas, ambitions and enthusiasms which she then weaves, together with her clients, into singular universes with their own language and meaning. The outcomes of these processes are not just services, products or objects. They are much more than that: they embody the all-too-human desire to create and leave a mark.

Francisca holds degrees in Communication Design from the Faculdade de Belas Artes in Lisbon, and Illustration and Digital Animation from Escola Superior de Artes e Design (ESAD) in Porto. She has been working as an independent Illustrator and Designer since then. She currently lives and works in Lisbon.

Her skills include visual communication, branding, illustration, web design, graphic design, packaging and display.

Francisca works with an open heart and enthusiastic hands that won’t stop until they make it happen.
